Recognition of Serbian marriages and birth/death registration with Serbian birth certificates in Kosovo system enabled

Kosovo Ministry of Interior has issued a decision that enables the registration of the civil status based on Serbian birth, death, and marriage certificates issued by September 14th 2016. The decision enables verification of marriage, and birth/death registration of family members in the central Kosovo citizen register. The decision implementation began in early September this year in municipalities in the North, and earlier throughout Kosovo. This was announced yesterday at a conference organized by the non-governmental organization LINK in CEC.

A year after, the integration of the judiciary is still incomplete

"One of the main causes for the inefficiency of the judiciary in northern Kosovo is the lack of translators, and - therefore - inadequate translation". This is the conclusion of the conference on the situation in the judiciary that was held yesterday in the Center for Civil Energy.

Visiting the Basic Court in North Mitrovica

The rule-of-law group of this year's School of European Integration visited today the Basic Court in North Mitrovica. The participants spoke with the president of this institution, Nikola Kabasic, who introduced them to the jurisdictions and functioning of this court and answered many of the questions raised on this occasion. During the visit, the participants also spoke with the judge of the Appellate Court, Milan Bigović.

Advocacy forum

On October 15, Center for Civic Energy hosted an advocacy forum aimed at integrating and connecting citizens, civil society organizations and the media with local governments in ten municipalities with Serbian majority. The purpose of the forum was to advocate and promote transparency and responsibility of local governments.

Presentation Conference of the NGO AKTIV 2018 Trend Analysis

On the 25th September, the Civic Energy Center in North Mitrovica played host to the presentation of NGO AKTIV’s 2018 Trend Analysis. This publication is the product of annual public opinion research that is conducted in the four northern municipalities of Northern Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposavic and Zvecan. 800 respondents partook in this year’s survey. The results of the Trend Analysis were presented by NGO AKTIV’s Head of Policy Office, Caleb Waugh. Maja Ficovic, journalist with Radio Kosovska Mitrovica acted as a moderator for the discussion, and Nenad Radosavljevic, Director of TV Mir in Leposavic, provided critical reflections upon the findings as a panel guest. The presentation discussed some of the most important findings of this year’s trend analysis.

The voting model in Kosovo needs to be simplified

Today NGO Aktiv and the Institute for Democracy for Development (D4D) organized a workshop on election justice and integrity of elections in Kosovoin the Civic Energy Center with participation of representatives of the institutions responsible for the election process –Xhemajl Peçani, on behalf of the Secretariat of the Central Election Commission (CEC),MulDesku, the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel, Shyqyri Sula, the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Court in Mitrovica, as well as members of relevant civil society organizations and citizens interested in this topic. The workshop was supported by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Embassy.

NGO Women's Rights and Ombudsman Office in Kosovo: Human rights are endangered by politics

NGO Women's Rights organized a training on the implementation of the Law on Human Rights for representatives of civil organizations, in the Center for Civil Energy. The training included the Law on Gender Equality, as well as the Labor Law of the Ombudsman Institution.

Members of "Empirika" in Gracanica on the activities and goals

Gracanica – Yesterday, at a meeting in Gracanica, representatives of ten Serbian NGOs coordinated and signed a document defining the goals, organizational principle and functioning of the advocacy platform of "Empirika". This document aims to establish the basic principles of the "Empirika" advocacy platform, and define the rights and obligations of member organizations.

Securymetar - Assessment of the security situation in Northern Kosovo

Monthly report - "Securymetar" - on the state of security in the North of Kosovo, with a reference to the month of June, was presented on 3 July at the Center for Civic Energy. The author of this report, NGO Humane Center Mitrovica lists security incidents in the North, monitors local and central level security committees, and gives conclusions and recommendations to security institutions on a monthly basis.

Public ballet class in CEC

Most cities in Serbian communities in Kosovo do not have a classical ballet school. North Mitrovica and Zubin Potok are proud of their ballet studio "Dunja Nikolic". The ballet room and pink floral dresses are the oasis in the dreams of every girl. Cheerful and playful girls seriously take their ballet positions at the first beats of music, and this is how their beginner's basics of posture and movements begin. The tiny ballerinas are introduced the ballet technique and rules at the age of five, or six.

Translations of documents from Albanian to Serbian are poor and expensive

The price of the translation of only one page-whether from Albanian to Serbian or vice-versa-in some Kosovo ministries exceeds 10 euros. The report done by the NGO "Aktiv" on the quality of translation of Kosovo laws from Albanian to Serbian shows that the translation is mostly bad and very expensive.

Forum Future: Vučić and Thaci Studied from Better History Textbooks

It was noted at the Forum Future held in North Mitrovica that the historical conflict between Serbs and Albanians didn’t have frightening dimensions and it’s necessary to confront the past.
